Getting Kids to Exercise

Money Motivated Exercise Ideas
Mowing Does a Body Good
mowing does a body good - my proud 12 year old

Organized sports are not the only way to get kids exercising. Some kids are not emotionally or physically prepared to compete. Consider encouraging a home based business that will have them hitting money goals rather than field goals.

Several opportunities that naturally involve exercise include; mowing lawns, shoveling snow, helping with gardens, cleaning garages, washing cars or dog walking are a some of the common ones.

Encourage your kids to hang fliers, knock on doors and handle their accounts to the best of their ability. The good feeling that comes from meeting needs and making people happy while putting money in the bank will keep them going. Put the emphasis on good work ethics and financial goals rather than weight or exercise for the sake of exercise if they are really aversive to the idea.

Often kids are inactive by default. They just don't know what to do with themselves after school and the popular thing to do is spend a lot of time in front of their electronics. Giving them an outlet to channel even the tiniest bit of energy into will cause it to grow and change their life. As their parent you may not be successful in getting them to run, but walking the neighbors dog or mowing lawns will quickly build muscles and put money in the bank.

Enlist the help of neighborhood friends to say encouraging things about their work if they are really having a hard time getting motivated. Knowing that they are both needed and appreciated could change the way they see themselves. Sedentary will no longer be an option, they will have too much to take care of.

My twelve year old son maintains my yard and the yards of several neighbors. A couple accounts are for elderly people, but mainly the people he works for are just too busy to bother with mowing. They gladly turn over cash in exchange for a little free time. I have had to put the stops on expansion. This gives him time to do homework and see friends. Overloading is never a good idea, the quality of the work will go down as well as the enjoyment of his side business.
