Smoke and get thin

Seems ridiculous, doesn’t it, to say something like that?
We all know that smoking causes a whole range of disease, the disturbing photos on cigarette packets (in Australia anyway) are educating us about it.
Where do I see the pics? On my 22 year old daughter’s cigarette packet.
She doesn’t admit it often, but she has admitted that she’s afraid to stop smoking because she may gain weight. Now she’s a very attractive young woman, a solid size 10-12, who was mercilessly teased about being “anorexic” as a teenager. She wasn’t, the child has always had a really healthy appetite!
But she is a smoking statistic. Francie Berg, author of Women Afraid to Eat, says that nicotine is the most popular diet drug in use today.
Women who stop smoking will gain weight afterwards, about 7 pounds, or 2.5 kilos.
Who would even notice that much, spread all over your body, bones, muscles and organs?
However, teenage girls are the group most likely to start and keep smoking. They smoke more than teenage boys by a long way!
Of course smoking, according to my skin care specialist friend, Naturopath Ananda Mahony (www.vitalenatural.com.au) causes a really ugly complexion, deep wrinkles, and makes you look older than you are.
Isn’t it time we actually spoke to girls who smoke about why they do it? And talk with them about the long term effects of smoking? And about how much weight control it actually provides? Even if was 10, 20 or more kilos, the negative effects to health (and appearance) can’t possibly be worth it!!
